The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center will resume normal operations tomorrow and will run adoptions specials through the end of September after successfully containing cases of parvo that prompted the suspension of all animal viewing and adoptions on Aug. 30.

Now adoptions are urgently needed as the shelter still received owner turn-ins during the quarantine period but was unable to adopt out any of the animals in its care. Through the end of September, both dog and cat adoptions are discounted by $25 to spur adoptions and free up much-needed capacity at the shelter. Now dogs are available for $50 each and cats for $25, which includes spay/neuter, rabies shot, a microchip and microchip registration, fecal test, and a City license.

“We appreciate everyone’s understanding, support, and supplies as we took precautions needed to ensure the safety of the animals in our care and prevent the spread of this dangerous virus,” Animal Control Supervisor Arleen Garcia says. “Parvo is highly contagious and it takes up to two weeks to show symptoms, so we had to be cautious. We’re thrilled to be able to reopen on schedule and return to our mission of adopting animals into loving homes.”

The Nancy J. Brua Animal Care Center is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It’s located at 6799 E. Highway 90. For more information about adoptions, foster opportunities, or how to support the shelter call (520) 458-4151.
